Our History

Founded by Dan and Cathy Haught, MasterScapes® has been helping clients improve outdoor spaces since 1992.

While still in high school, Dan created and managed a small lawn maintenance business in an effort to better serve the customers of his father’s tree trimming service. Many of those folks asked for more help and Dan responded.

Later, with new ideas and new college degrees, Dan and Cathy ventured out on their own and formed MasterScapes. Always with the client in mind, services expanded.

Today, in a continued effort to provide clients with the best possible care, MasterScapes has grown into a full-service landscape design, build, and maintenance company. Since 1992, commitment to hard work and innovation has shaped MasterScapes into a company that offers better solutions to clients’ needs.

MasterScapes History

Our Roots

1978

Dan Haught’s father opens Haught’s Tree Service in Abilene, Texas.

1980

Haught’s Tree Service expands services to include lawn maintenance.

1985

Dan Haught begins managing lawn maintenance services at Haught’s Tree Service.

1990s

1991

Haught Landscape Company adds Landscape services.

1992

Haught Landscape Company adds Irrigation services.

Dan and Cathy Haught purchase the lawn maintenance portion of the family business and become Haught Landscape Company.

1993

Haught Landscape Company acquires Simpson Landscaping

1995

Haught Landscape Company rebrands as MasterScapes.

1996

MasterScapes adds Treatment services.

MasterScapes purchases location on Bacacita Farms Road and moves office operations into a portable building.

MasterScapes registers as a federally protected trademark.

1997

MasterScapes constructs building on the Bacacita Farms Road property to house
office operations.

2000s

2000

MasterScapes expands service offering to include Registered Landscape Architect design services.

2002

10th Anniversary.

MasterScapes begins using the H2B visa labor certification program.

2004

MasterScapes expands office space.

MasterScapes launches website.

2005

MasterScapes offers online bill pay through company website.

2007

MasterScapes expands office space to accommodate additional staff.

2008

MasterScapes acquires Morris Lawn Service.

2009

MasterScapes expands facilities to include a small workshop and storage area.

2010s

2010

MasterScapes acquires Promise Lawn Care.

2011

20th Anniversary.

MasterScapes acquires Abilene Lawn Solutions and Brokaw Lawn Service. MasterScapes expands facilities to include a new workshop.

MasterScapes redesigns website.

2012

MasterScapes modifies facilities by converting the original small workshop to a break room.

2013

MasterScapes opens office in Sweetwater, Texas.

2014

MasterScapes expands facilities to include a shade house for plant materials.

2015

MasterScapes acquires Weed Patrol.

MasterScapes expands existing workshops.

2016

MasterScapes remodels office workspace to improve functionality.

2017

25th Anniversary.

MasterScapes builds Irrigation and Treatment barn.

2019

MasterScapes acquires Becoming Lawns.

MasterScapes opens branch in Dallas/Ft Worth.

MasterScapes expands and remodels office.

Today

2022

30th Anniversary.

2023

MasterScapes implements Aspire industry software.

MasterScapes builds seconds shade house.

2024

MasterScapes redesigns and relaunches website.
